About Herpetology and The Difference Between Herpetology & Ophiology.
Herpetology is a branch of zoology that deals with the study of reptiles and amphibians, or more simply it can be termed as the study of "ectothermic tetrapods" ( or cold-blooded tetrapods). Where snakes, crocodiles, tortoises, lizards, terrapins & amphisbaenians are reptiles and frogs, salamanders, newts & toads are amphibians. The word herpetology comes from two Greek words, one is "herpeton", meaning "reptile" or "creeping animal" and the other is "logia", meaning "knowledge". Herpetology was invented by "Laurence Monroe Klauber", an American scientist.

Let us now know that the difference between herpetology and opiology :-
(1)π Herpetology is the branch of zoology, but ophiology is the branch of herpetology.
(2)π Herpetology deals with the study of reptiles and amphibians while ophiology deals with the study of snakes.
(3)π The word herpetology comes from two Greek words, one is "herpeton", which means "reptile" or "creeping animal" and another is "logia", means "knowledge" while ophiology is a combination of two Greek words, one is "ophis", which means "snake" and the other "logia" means "knowledge" or "study of".
